If you have you used any black business directory, you have probably seen non black owned businesses in that directory. I Am Black Business is no exception. We depend on user feedback to remove those businesses; however, we know we can improve. Back to the title of this post - Why they get into our directory. The number one reason is SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
If you don’t know what SEO, here’s a great article to get you going. Basically, these companies are trying to help their Google search rankings. As Nelly would say, they only want us for our link juice. Our team has put a lot of effort into ensuring all of listings are optimized for SEO. The same benefits of our highly optimized website are received by everyone.
What’s even more interested is that most of the business owners don’t even know their business has been added to our directory until they receive the newsletter which is evident from this guy who considered IABB racist when he unsubscribed from our mailing list.
A lot of times, these businesses have hired an SEO specialist that doesn’t care to check that our directory is black owned. We have noticed some patterns for these type of submissions so we hope to implement some automated rejection methods.
I hope this post sheds some light on how the majority on non black owned businesses are added to our directory. Don’t worry, we are definitely working to remove them with your help. Lastly, if you are a non black business owner that has found its way into our directory, please notify our team so that you can be removed. Also, find a new SEO specialist. :)
