A few weeks ago I was invited out to lunch at Ike's Cafe & Grill. The restaurant is located in Norcross, Ga, off of Indian Trail. They specialize in West African cuisine and offer a wide variety of dishes. Specific fan favorites include: Ayamase (a Nigerian favorite), Jollof Rice (Ghanaian favorite) and Attieke (Cote d'Ivoire favorite).
Upon entering the restaurant, I noticed red, velvet, and gold colors painted on the walls, as well as hardwood accents. It is also very spacious and perfect for large events. My party was immediately greeted with a smile by the hostess and shown to our table. The waitress greeted us upon sitting at the table, advised us of the specials and provided detailed responses to our questions about the dishes. The ambiance was vibrant and the music played by the live DJ created a festive atmosphere.
We ordered the Beef Suya as our appetizer. This was my first exposure to Suya. I'm glad we went with that choice; it was well prepared and tasted great with the suya seasoning and onions. I ordered peppered soup for my entree, which was prepared Ghanaian style (it can also be prepared in the Nigerian style) with rice and plantains. Similar to the suya, the dish was well prepared and tasted great. The dish was seasoned to perfection, with the perfect amount of spices.
The cuisines were an exceptional fusion of modern and traditional dishes that displayed culinary diversity and a passion for authentic West African food. If you want to enjoy excellent food while listening to great West African music, be prepared to have the experience of a lifetime. Ike's Cafe and Grill will not disappoint. Try it for yourself and if your opinion differs, feel free to respond to this post.
